Some art for this weekend’s opening at Watch City Brewery

I’ve been painting a ton lately getting ready for an art show at Watch City Brewery in Waltham, MA (opening 3-6 this Saturday). Here are a few pics of some of the paintings/drawings that I’ve been working on. most of these will be in the art show (opening this Saturday 3-6).

Change without change?

There’s been something that’s been bugging me for a while now. When the majority of Americans voted Obama into office last November, we wanted true change and he seemed the most willing & able to bring this about. He was relatively new to the game & had little Washington baggage holding him back, seemingly enabling him to achieve this goal. Sadly, I don’t think a lot of Republicans got the message. It seems that they didn’t pay any attention at all to what Americans voted for. Since inauguration day, they’ve been pushing back hard against anything & everything put forth by the President, regardless of what it is, and doing so with some of the most pathetic & insane excuses for ideas or ideals. It doesn’t matter what it is, if a Democrat brought it to the table, forget about it, it’s socialism or some other bullshit line of reasoning that holds no water. All I’m hearing is alot of whining & bitterness because the seemingly endless reign of the GOP is finally over (thank God). They’ve been showing no true concern for doing what neeeds to be done for America. Getting more and more extreme with your politics is pushing your party in the wrong direction while thinning the ranks in the process. It’s not helping accomplish anything but boosting your TV ratings, which is really all a lot of these clowns are after (FoxNews, I’m looking at you.)

It is perfectly OK to disagree with what Obama & the Dems are trying to do, but if you want to debate the issues, please do it with some semblance of reality. When I hear about the Birthers, the Tea Party movement, talk of death panels, claims of socialism, climate change deniers, or about people bringing guns to town hall meetings (meetings about healthcare… really, how stupid are you?), it makes me sick to think that someone actually believes this stuff. Please, pick up a newspaper and educate yourselves before opening your mouths, playing the fear card and just shouting nonsense at the top of your lungs isn’t patriotism, it is only noise drowning out the voices of those who are actually trying to make a difference.

I know this is politics as usual, but is that what we want? Didn’t we vote to change this? How has “politics as usual” worked for us the previous 8 years? Maybe it’s because I’ve been paying more attention to this stuff as I get older, but it seems like the crazy factor has been ratcheted up a few hundred notches. The inability of the GOP to even consider another point of view is staggering. Quit being a bunch of stubborn, finger pointing buffoons and work together to fix some of the things that are broken. Forget about bowing to the companies who contribute to your party, forget about what letter is next to someone’s name on the rolls, forget about all of the partisan BS, because that’s all it is. The Dems & GOP aren’t all that dissimilar, really. There are problems with both parties, you’re both full of shit and are making a mess of everything, but it appears to me that the GOP has been considerably worse. They’ve been the biggest roadblock getting in the way of getting of every single thing, andthen they cry about how nothing is getting done. This is a shame, because I believe at the core, there are some good ideas & principles in there, but they’re getting overshadowed by the nutcases. Try remembering who you’re here to serve: the American people, the people who are trying to find jobs in the midst of record unemployment (13% in RI as of this writing), people who have a hard time getting affordable health coverage, people who have had to watch their children go to war, people who are just trying to make ends meet and who are trying to secure a better future for their children, remember us? Yea, we’ll we’re tired of your games and want to start seeing some progress… now.

Neither party has all the answers, so please do me a favor and wake the hell up. Put your differences aside and start get things accomplished. This is a historic time in America, and I would like to remember this period in our country’s history as one where great things were accomplished, where we overcame huge odds and triumphed like the America of days past, where we worked together and made things better instead of one where nothing happened because nobody could agree on anything and it was just politics as usual… again.

*end rant*
